Step aside Britain and Germany, amazon.ie has just been announced

by David Redmond

Back in the good old days, buying stuff from Amazon was a simple trip to Amazons UK site Amazon.co.uk. You could get nearly anything, and usually you’d be able to find this at
relatively affordable prices.

Then the UK voted to leave the EU group chat, and suddenly buying from amazon.co.uk became a bit more expensive.

It wasn’t the end of the world as for most things you could just jump over to Amazons German website Amazon.de, but this had its own disadvantages. Lots of the product names were in German, and chances are if you bought anything electrical it would arrive with a European plug. It was cheaper, but it wasn’t ideal.

Finally though it looks like there’s a solution on the horizon, as Amazon announced this week that they will launch amazon.ie next year.

The company claim the new website will provide Irish consumers with cheaper prices, faster shipping, and more products from Irish businesses. All of this is good news and
will hopefully provide more choices for consumers.

Amazon already has lots of infrastructure in Ireland, employing more than 6,000 staff here. They have a fulfilment centre in Dublin, and recently launched their first Irish original Prime Video series in the form of Last One
Laughing Ireland.

I’m hoping that amazon.ie will have a wide selection of products just like the UK store, but time will ultimately tell on that.

Better prices and a more targeted experience for Irish consumers is worth looking forward to, and it seems the news has been well received.

Conclusion
Amazon already has a big Irish presence, so it’s their game to lose right now. Will you use the new Irish site? Let us know with a WhatsApp Voice Note on 086 199 0011. We’d love to hear from you.
