One of the most useful features of the Microsoft Soundscape app is the ability to create Markers to places most are relevant to you such as pedestrian crossings, intersections in parks, benches, ATMs, and generally things that are not always available in public maps. Now with Soundscape you can add Markers to such points of interest with your voice using Siri, and we tell you how.
Microsoft Soundscape
If you are user of Microsoft Soundscape, you can now enable Siri shortcuts to do a number of actions. Soundscape is an iPhone app that delivers a map in 3D sound. It gives the vision impaired or blind user a richer awareness of their surroundings as they walk. It works well with a number of different headsets such as AirPods Pro and bone conducting headphones.
Setting a Marker using Siri
In recent updates Soundscape has added some Siri shortcuts. One of the most useful of these is the ability to save a marker using Siri.
To set up Siri Shortcuts in Soundscape:
- Open Soundscape and tap on menu.
- Tap on Settings.
- Tap on Siri shortcuts.
- Then you will see a list of Siri shortcuts to choose from.
- Flick down to the one you want, in this case it is save marker, tap on this
- You will get a description of the Siri command you can use to invoke this shortcut and an option to change phrase. If you are happy with the default tap on done and you are ready to go.
So next time you are out on a walk, and you come to a place, landmark, or danger that you want to save a marker on, you can say “hey Siri, Save marker”. The save marker menu will pop up on the screen with a default name edit box. If you are happy with the name just tap done. If the name does not mean anything to you then you can type in a new name with something relevant like overhanging branches, park bench or steps down and then tap done.
Other Siri shortcuts are available to set up in Soundscape like what’s my location, what’s around me, hear markers nearby and so on.
