Welcome to NCBI’s How I See Campaign 2023! We hope this campaign will provide some insight into what everyday life is like for people who are blind or vision impaired.

This Campaign stems from service users and advocates highlighting to us the common misconceptions among the wider public on what they believe it is like to be blind or vision impaired. The How I See Campaign aims to inform and educate the public about the realities of living with sight loss and to answer many questions people may have but are too afraid to ask.

In part four of the How I See Campaign, we delved into some of the inner workings of home life for people who are blind or vision impaired.

In part five of the campaign, we ask participants about the emotional experience of being blind or vision impaired and the answers differ greatly. It can be a traumatic experience for a person who is losing or who has lost their sight and dealing with the emotions of such a life changing event can be difficult.

On the other hand, there may be situations were a person is born blind or with a vision impairment and it might be that their experience doesn’t affect their emotional state because it has always been their norm.

There can be many different emotions between these two extremes as well and it’s important to remember that before making any assumptions about a person who is blind or vision impaired.
