Monday 5th December 2022 – NCBI (National Council for the Blind of Ireland) was extremely grateful to accept a generous donation from the Mollie Plunkett Run, which was organised by the family of Mollie Plunkett.
Two-year-old Mollie Plunkett, who is from Cavan and lives with the condition Optic Nerve Hypoplasia supported NCBI earlier this year through the Mollie Plunkett Run. The run saw a convoy of tractors and other vehicles take part in a tour from Laragh, Co Cavan through Cavan town, Cootehill and Canningstown.
The hugely successful event was supported by Mollie’s parents, Fiona Clancy Plunkett and Seamus Plunkett and the incredibly supportive members of the family’s local community. With all the support the event received, the family were able to present NCBI with a cheque for €28,820 on Friday, December 2nd at the Community Hall in Laragh.
The funds raised through the Mollie Plunkett Run will contribute to NCBI’s ability to provide vital services to Mollie and other children and adults around Ireland who are blind or vision impaired.
Mollie’s mother, Fiona Clancy Plunkett, said: “It has been nearly two years since Mollie was diagnosed and from shortly after that point Mollie, myself and Seamus have received incredible guidance and support from NCBI. When we began organising the Mollie Plunkett Run, we couldn’t have imagined the level of support we received from everyone in Cavan, Leitrim and beyond who supported Mollie and her big event.
“We’re so happy that the funds we raised will go back into NCBI to provide services and support to children and families who are dealing with similar diagnoses and similar situations as ourselves.”
