MagniLink WifiCam & MagniWifi

Review by Dorian Salzmann

Product Description
This product is made up of 2 Parts:
1. MagniLink WifiCam – The MagniLink WifiCam is an all-in-one solution directly connecting to an iPad. It features a Reading/Distance Cam and comes with a built-in stand.
2. MagniWifi – MagniWifi is a device designed to link an iPad with a MagniLink video magnifier. You Connect the MagniLink WifiCam to the MagniWifi box using a single cable to a laptop and establish a wireless connection to an iPad.

Unboxing/What are my first impressions?
It is quite a compact camera, but a bulky MagniWifi standalone box.

What did I like?
It is very compact and portable rather than say a CCTV would be. Also, it comes with a Hardshell case that is rather important.

What didn’t I like?
I had trouble getting the WIFI to connect as the code does not seem to be working.

Accessibility from a low-vision perspective
This uses an application that supports abilities such as magnification, artificial colours, split camera modes, reference lines, OCR (Optical Character Recognition), Save Images, Video recording, and more. This would be particularly useful for someone with low vision, as long as the App remains accessible with Voiceover or Talkback.

Accessibility from a no-vision perspective
This uses an application that supports abilities such as magnification, artificial colours, split camera modes, reference lines, OCR, Save Images, Video recording, and more. Many of the functions except the OCR would be unusable by someone with no vison.

Learning curve
You would have to be comfortable with using both a Laptop and a Tablet. But also setting up a camera that requires the strength of at least a 15-year-old. By way of moving the arm into position.

For whom would I recommend this product?
Students/Employees with Low Vision who work in an environment that requires someone to be able to see a screen from a distance and cannot get up and look at the screen in person.
