Introduction

NCBI is delighted to support and celebrate with our LGBTQIA+ colleagues and friends around Ireland this Pride month. Supporting this brilliant cause is incredibly important to NCBI as we understand and champion the importance of individuality among our service users, staff and the wider communities that they are involved in.

NCBI’s support of Pride and inclusivity

NCBI recognises that our service users and staff come from diverse backgrounds, with varying experiences and needs. We are committed to ensuring that gender equality, diversity and inclusion are embedded into our day-to-day working practices. We actively promote fairness, respect, gender equality, diversity, inclusion, and engagement but recognise it is a journey and we are committed to continuous improvement.

NCBI Retail

NCBI Retail’s 130+ stores around Ireland will be heavily involved in NCBI’s Pride visibility over the course of the month of June. Many of our stores will display Pride window displays in a show of solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ members of the local communities in which our stores are based. The message behind our window displays are simple: everyone is welcome, everyone is equal, and everyone is entitled to express themselves and live their lives in whichever way they see fit.

Information about accessibility at Pride events

Pride festivals will take place all around Ireland in June and beyond. Some of the larger pride festivals include:

  • Dublin Pride: June 20th – June 25th
  • Carlow Pride: July 2nd
  • Limerick Pride: July 3rd – July 9th
  • Drogheda Pride: July 21st – July 23rd
  • Cork Pride: July 30th – August 6th
  • Galway Pride: August 7th to August 13th

The first in the list of festivals, Dublin Pride, has some accessibility information available on their website. They will have a team of volunteers specifically supporting people with accessibility needs at the start of the parade, at a quieter point in the middle of the route if people want to join, and at an accessible entrance at the after party at Merrion Square Park. They also have an option to make contact with them through through [email protected] if you have any accessibility requests or queries.

Carlow Pride – Carlow Pride has several accessibility measures in place for its parade. They will post the parade route on social media in advance of the event, using alt text to describe the route. They have a plan in place to make sure there are areas on footpaths along that are not blocked for pedestrians, especially those using mobility aids. Tactile paving is in place throughout sections of the parade route. There are also measures in place regarding noise to make the area safer for people who are blind or vision impaired and for guide dog users. No pyrotechnics will be used on the day to protect guide dogs and users. Stewards will also be on hand throughout the parade route should there be any concerns regarding accessibility on the day. If you have a specific question or request regarding accessibility in advance, please contact [email protected].
