Topic

Positive Psychology is a discipline that examines the psychological resources and characteristics that allow people to function adaptively in the face of the many demands of life. It is a scientific approach to studying human thoughts, feelings, and behaviour, with a focus on strengths instead of deficits, building the good in life instead of repairing the bad. Positive psychology has challenged the focus of psychologists by creating a practical vision of “what actions lead to wellbeing, to positive individuals, and to thriving communities” (Seligman & Csikszentmihalyi, 2000).

The mission of Action for Happiness is to help people create a happier world, with a culture that prioritises happiness and kindness. They do this by helping people get together regularly to learn evidence-based skills for happier living, feel a sense of belonging, and commit to personal action to create more happiness, both for themselves and others. Their content and approach have been shared with dozens of our service users through our “Exploring What Matters” courses and our “10 Keys to Happiness” monthly peer group.
