Make sustainable the new normal

Thursday 22nd April 2021, NCBI (National Council for the Blind of Ireland) marks Earth Day 2021 by encouraging people to play their part in helping the environment. This year’s theme is Restore our Earth and NCBI wants to inspire people to make small changes – learning more about the environmental benefit of shopping in NCBI (either online or in store), do a Spring Clean or be active in upcycling or mending fashion and furniture.

Beverley Scallan, NCBI Head of Retail said “2021’s theme of Earth Day is “Restore” and promoting sustainability and the circular economy is something, as Ireland’s second-largest charity retailer, NCBI wants to be at the forefront. Every day our customers are helping the planet by keeping clothing and furniture in circulation rather than buying new. Every year, nearly 2,000 tonnes of clothes are donated to NCBI. By reusing and keeping clothing in circulation we are able to save 10 billion litres of water that would be used textile production Think global, act local.”

NCBI hopes to reopen our stores in May. In the meantime, why not do a Spring Clean on your wardrobe? This way, you will be ready to donate to NCBI stores as soon as they open. You can also shop online by buying furniture through the NCBI Furniture Shop or clothing through Thriftify.ie.
