New larger Vision Ireland store opens on Letterkenny Main Street

Dorothy Pyper, a local service user of Vision Ireland, the new name for NCBI, which supports people who are visually impaired, opened a new and improved Vision Ireland store on Letterkenny Main Street today. When Dorothy went for an eye test a few years ago, she discovered that her sight was affected by macular degeneration. Since then, she has availed of a range of services offered by Vision Ireland for visually impaired people.

The new Vision Ireland store boasts an even wider range of merchandise than the previous location. In addition to ladieswear, menswear, books and homeware, the new store will also sell children’s clothing and furniture.

Speaking at the Vision Ireland store opening today, Dorothy Pyper said: “It was unbelievable the way Vision Ireland looked after me when I started to lose my sight. They took a lot of time with me to help me adapt how I used things. They helped me with my phone and my iPad and gave me an accessibility tool so that I could read. They made sure to check on me during the pandemic, too, keeping in touch over Zoom. All of their help really gave me the confidence boost I needed to start living life to the full again. It’s great to see them move to an even bigger location in Letterkenny. My experience with Vision Ireland has been life changing. I’d encourage anyone to go in and have a look around the shop and support them.”

Also speaking at the opening was Danielle McDonagh, Area Manager at Vision Ireland, who said: “It’s a very exciting day for my Letterkenny team as they open their brand new, bigger and better store. Relocating just a few doors up from the previous unit and under our new name, Vision Ireland, the store offers a bigger variety of ladies’ and men’s pre-loved fashion, books and homeware. We have also made the decision to offer furniture and kids’ clothing due to customer requests. This is something we weren’t able to do in our previous location, so we are delighted to be able to offer this now. The Letterkenny community has been a huge support to our charity through donations, fundraising and in-house purchases. We greatly appreciate the support and look forward to welcoming locals through our doors at our new location.”

Donations will also be gratefully accepted at the Letterkenny store or at any other Vision Ireland, or NCBI shop around Ireland.
